At the time, the "new retro wave" was becoming a permanent fixture in pop culture. Bank of Montreal approached us to capture this nostalgia in 8-bit form. This spot was an absolute pleasure to create.
We kept it simple, frame-by-frame animating and designing in Photoshop using very small canvases. The limited amount of freedom when working with pixels posed an interesting challenge for communicating expression and detail. Afterwards, we brought the frames into After Effects and used a null to move the animation.
